What is coated fabric? What is nylon/polyester coated fabric?
What is coated fabric? What is nylon/polyester coated fabric? What are the types, functions and uses of coated fabrics? coated fabric in English
Simply put, the so-called coated fabric is a fabric or cloth that has been treated with a special process.
It mainly uses a special process to coat a layer of material with special functions on the basis of cloth, so that the cloth adds special functions. So it is also called functional coated fabric or cloth.
Classification of coated fabrics:
According to the different coating materials, there are three categories: PVC coated fabrics, PU coated fabrics and semi-PU coated fabrics.
Depending on the coating process, there are mercerized leather fabrics, matte fabrics, anti-leather fabrics, wrinkled leather fabrics, etc.
There are also classifications based on functions and features. Such as: colored rubber fabrics, PVC-coated fabrics, silver-coated fabrics, calendered fabrics, flame-retardant fabrics, PA breathable fabrics, PU breathable transparent fabrics, etc. Special coated fabrics: rubber-like coating, paper-like processing, waterproof, moisture-permeable and breathable, pearlescent series, oil-wax-like coating, PU gold and silver glue, high water pressure resistance series (up to 1000—10000), UV -CUT anti-UV processing, etc.
The process principle of coated fabric
The principle is actually very simple, but operation is the key!
It is to use solvents (currently fabric factories generally use toluene or methyl ethyl ketone) to dissolve the required coating rubber particles (including PU glue, A/C glue, PVC, PE glue) into a saliva-like shape (related to the rubber material and The proportion of sol, viscosity, etc.) is evenly applied on the fabric (including cotton, polyester, nylon and other base materials) with a scraper, and then is fixed by the temperature in the oven to form a uniform layer on the surface of the fabric. Covering rubber material to achieve waterproof, windproof, breathable and other functions!
Coated fabrics or fabrics generally have a higher improvement in yarn splitting. These coated fabrics are used in down jacket fabrics, ski clothing fabrics, work protection clothing fabrics, outdoor sportswear fabrics, etc.!
As for the manufacturing process, it depends on what physical requirements you want, what functions you need, and what kind of materials you want!
Generally, the solvents I mentioned above are used as the main ones, and then the glue is selected, then dissolved, stirred, coated, and fixed!
Supplement: I don’t quite understand the anilox roller mentioned by the poster, maybe it’s called differently. If it’s pure gluing, the scraper method is just a piece of steel combined with a roller; but if a rubber surface is required If there is a pattern, it requires a pressing process, and you need a roller with patterns on it!
The current types of coated finishing fabrics are roughly as follows
1. PA coated fabric, also called AC glue coated fabric, is acrylic coated fabric. It is a common coating at present. After coating, it can increase the hand feel, windproof and drape.
2. PU coated fabric, that is, polyurethane coating. After coating, the fabric feels plump, elastic, and has a filmy feel on the surface.
3.: Anti-down coated fabric refers to anti-down coating. After coating, it can prevent down from running away and is suitable for making down jacket fabrics. But now, any PA coating with water pressure requirements is also called anti-velvet coating.
4. PA white glue coated fabric, that is, coating a layer of white acrylic resin on the surface of the fabric, which can increase the covering rate of the fabric, make it opaque, and make the color of the fabric more vivid
5. PU white glue coated fabric, that is, a layer of white polyurethane resin is coated on the surface of the fabric. The function is basically the same as that of PA white glue. However, after PU white glue is applied, the hand feels fuller, the fabric is more elastic, and the fastness is better.
6. PA silver glue-coated fabrics, that is, coating a layer of silver-white glue on the surface of the fabric to make the fabric have light-shielding and radiation-proof functions. It is generally used in curtains, tents, and clothing.
7. PU silver glue coated fabric has the same basic functions as PA silver glue coating. However, PU silver-coated fabrics have better elasticity and better fastness. For tents and other fabrics that require high water pressure, PU silver-coated fabrics are better than PA silver-coated fabrics.
8. Pearlescent coated fabrics. By applying pearlescent coating on the surface of the fabric, the surface of the fabric has a pearl-like luster, which can be silvery white or colored. It makes a very beautiful costume. There are also PA pearlescent and PU pearlescent. PU pearlescent is smoother and brighter than PA pearlescent, has a better film feel, and is also known as “pearl film”.
9. Oil-coated fabric has a smooth and shiny surface after coating, and is generally suitable for tablecloths.
Uses of coated fabrics:
It is widely used in sportswear, down jackets, rain-proof parkas, jackets, tents, shoes and socks, curtains, bags and ski shirts with advanced waterproof and breathable functions, mountaineering clothes, windbreakers, etc.
It can also be used in national defense, navigation, fishing, offshore oil wells, transportation and other fields.
Waterproof coating series fabrics have multiple functions such as windproof, waterproof, and moisture permeability.
From the perspective of the fashion market: 50% of casual wear is made of coated fabrics. The main styles include vests and jackets, which use high-quality PU coating and are relatively light and thin. The colors tend to be light and elegant, including light blue, light gray, light purple, etc. At first glance, it looks like a breeze, fresh and beautiful. The biggest advantage of coated clothing is that it feels smooth and waterproof. It is water-resistant and easy to clean. It has been loved by young people since its launch and has good sales. The consumer group of coated clothing is mainly young men, women and middle school students. This type of clothing is not expensive and has many styles, catering to the consumption characteristics of young people.
