Energy conservation and emission reduction are top priorities for the printing and dyeing industry
On the occasion of the “Green Environmental Protection Technology of Denim Washing – Energy Saving, Emission Reduction and Efficiency Seminar” sponsored by the China Cotton Textile Industry Association, “Textile and Apparel Weekly” interviewed China Textile on the theme of energy saving and emission reduction in the dyed denim industry. Xu Wenying, vice president of the Industrial Association and president of the China Cotton Textile Industry Association.
“Textile and Apparel Weekly”: What is the significance of energy saving and emission reduction to the development of yarn-dyed denim industry?
Xu Wenying: Facing the situation of high costs and low profit margins in the textile industry, energy conservation and emission reduction are not only the need for healthy development and structural adjustment of the industry, but also the need for enterprises to assume social responsibilities.
At present, my country’s textile industry is facing greater pressure on energy conservation and emission reduction. The wastewater discharge of the entire textile industry has accounted for 7.5% of the national industrial wastewater discharge statistics. Among them, wastewater from printing and dyeing (including yarn-dyed denim) accounts for 7.5% of the wastewater discharge of the entire textile industry. 80% of the quantity.
According to statistics from the State Environmental Protection Administration, the total amount of wastewater discharged by my country’s printing and dyeing industry (including yarn-dyed denim) ranks fifth in the country’s total manufacturing emissions. The water consumption per unit product of printing and dyeing enterprises is about three times that of developed countries. However, the reuse rate lags behind the average level of the manufacturing industry, only 7%. Judging from this statistics, the printing and dyeing industry (including yarn-dyed denim) is a high-energy, high-water-consuming, high-pollution industry. In the face of energy shortages and In the context of water shortages and worsening environmental pollution, energy conservation, emission reduction, clean production, and water reuse are top priorities for the current printing and dyeing industry (including yarn-dyed denim). It affects the healthy development of the industry and is closely related to to the rise and fall of the enterprise.
“Textile and Apparel Weekly”: What is the focus of energy conservation and emission reduction in the yarn-dyed denim industry?
Xu Wenying: Judging from the production characteristics of the cotton textile industry, the focus of energy conservation is power saving, and the focus of emission reduction is the yarn-dyed denim industry. The yarn-dyed denim industry focuses on two key points: first, environmentally friendly slurry; second, the adoption of advanced energy-saving and emission-reducing production processes.
Environmentally friendly sizing is the material source of emission reduction. The China Cotton Textile Industry Association attaches great importance to the use and promotion of environmentally friendly sizing. Since 1996, it has proposed “use less and no PVA”. Nowadays, this concept has formed a consensus and is widely used in applications. Technical results have also been achieved. At present, we should accelerate the pace from “less use of PVA” to “no use of PVA”. As long as there is the support of sizing and sizing technology and the coordinated combination of all-round innovation in textile sizing work, there will be more and more The sizing technology that replaces PVA serves production and plays a greater role in reducing the emission of printing and dyeing desizing wastewater.
From the perspective of the association, we widely solicit advanced energy-saving and emission-reducing production technology from the society, pay close attention to changes in new technologies at home and abroad, and hold relevant seminars in a timely manner. The upcoming seminar on denim washing green environmental protection technology – energy saving, emission reduction and efficiency improvement will be held in Guangzhou on August 20, with the purpose of promoting the application and promotion of energy saving and emission reduction technology in the industry.
“Textile and Apparel Weekly”: An important part of this seminar is the exchange of experience in the application of the GP8000 denim washing process of the American Dow Corning Company. Could you please introduce this aspect?
Xu Wenying: The yarn-dyed denim industry is the focus of energy conservation and emission reduction in the cotton textile industry, and the washing process is the top priority, mainly because this process consumes a lot of energy and generates a large amount of wastewater.
The development and application of advanced production processes that save energy, reduce emissions, and increase efficiency have become the goals that industries and enterprises have been striving for. Dow Corning GP8000 softener is used in the washing process of denim clothing. It is a silicone softener and is currently a widely used fiber smoothing agent. It is developing rapidly. Its toxicity and biodegradability meet environmental protection requirements. In November 2007, Dow Corning began to conduct process tests of the production process in Chinese denim clothing manufacturers, and conducted experiments to demonstrate the usability of the product in terms of water, steam, time, and labor. Judging from the data after the test, this product can save about 30% of water and 20% to 40% of time, thus increasing the factory’s production capacity. It is better than traditional processes in terms of anti-dye staining performance and water repellency, and can be used for denim. The physical and chemical indicators such as the dry and soft feel of the clothing and friction fastness are the same as or improved compared with traditional processes. While ensuring product quality, it can also save energy and reduce emissions through process simplification.
After the success of GP8000 softener in the test, it has been directly used in the production lines of some washing companies in the past six months. The purpose of this thematic seminar on this green and environmentally friendly washing process is to widely exchange experience and accelerate the industrialization of GP8000 softener. process to promote cost reduction, energy conservation and emission reduction in the yarn-dyed denim industry. qDU5F7qKo
