Characteristics and varieties of vinylon fiber fabrics
1. Characteristics of vinylon fiber fabric
The properties of vinylon are similar to cotton, so it is called “synthetic cotton”. Its fabric characteristics are as follows:
⑴ Vinyl fabric has the strongest hygroscopicity among synthetic fabrics, so it has the style of ordinary cotton fabrics. At the same time, it is stronger and more durable than cotton.
⑵ Vinyl fabric is acid-alkali-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and not afraid of insects. Long-term sunlight has little effect on its strength. Therefore, it is suitable for making work clothes and is often woven into canvas.
⑶The disadvantage of vinylon fabric is that it has poor resistance to hot water, will shrink and deform when exposed to heat when wet, and is not brightly dyed. Therefore, its use is limited and it is a low-grade clothing material.
2. Varieties of vinylon fabrics
Vylon fabrics are generally rarely pure and mostly blended or interwoven with other fibers. Here we mainly introduce the blends and interwoven fabrics of vinylon and other chemical fibers. The main varieties are:
⑴Viscose/Viscose Gabardine, also known as Viscose/Viscose Dongfeng, is a yarn blended with 50% vinylon and 50% wool-type viscose fiber. Woven by a 2/2 twill weave, it has the same front and back sides, thick and tight texture, toughness, durability, and wooly gabardine-like characteristics, but it has a better luster than wool and is suitable for outerwear.
⑵ Vinyl/Viscose Veridin is woven plainly with vinylon and wool-type viscose. The resulting Veridin-style fabric is usually made with a vinylon/artificial wool ratio of 70/30 or 50/50. It has Fabrics are thick and durable or compact and light. The disadvantages are large shrinkage and poor heat resistance. Mostly used as mid-to-low-end summer clothing.
