-China’s textile and apparel exports increased by .% year-on-year

According to statistics from the General Administration of Customs, my country’s textile and apparel exports in May were US$23.445 billion, a year-on-year increase of 1.07%. Among them, textile exports were US$11.24 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9.14%; clothing exports were US$12.20 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 5.38%.

From January to May, my country’s total exports of textiles and clothing totaled US$102.231 billion, an increase of 3.35% compared with the same period last year. Among them, the cumulative export volume of textiles was US$47.577 billion, a year-on-year increase of 10.75%, and the growth rate was 1.65 percentage points slower than the first quarter; the cumulative export volume of clothing was US$54.654 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 2.34%, and the growth rate was 3 percentage points lower than the first quarter.

The export of labor-intensive products such as textiles and clothing is not as good as the overall performance of the country’s export of goods. In the first five months of this year, the country’s total exports of goods grew by 13.3%, 9.95 percentage points higher than the textile and apparel industry.

Industry insiders believe that on the one hand, the uncertainties caused by Sino-US trade friction are increasing, and the international orders of many overseas brand buyers may be further diversified, which will increase the pressure on my country’s clothing export companies. On the other hand, the global economic recovery has diverged since 2018. With the exception of the United States, the economic growth rate of the world’s major developed economies has declined, the recovery momentum of some emerging countries is weakening, and the momentum for continued growth in global consumer purchasing power has been reduced. Therefore, my country’s clothing exports will still maintain greater growth pressure in the future.
