Reporters learned from the Shanghai Market Supervision Bureau on February 20 that recently, the Shanghai Municipal Market Supervision Bureau has concentrated its organizational efforts on products with a large number of consumer complaints, reports and quality issues. Supervision and random inspections were conducted on 80 batches of cashmere wool clothing of 73 brands sold by 27 companies in four regions: Huangpu, Xuhui, Yangpu, and Putuo. 13 batches of products were found to be unqualified.

This testing item includes a total of 12 items including formaldehyde content, pH value, color fastness to water, etc. The unqualified items this time are fiber content and methylene chloride soluble substances.

Fiber content reflects the composition and content of raw materials used in products. It is an important indicator of the intrinsic quality of textiles and has always been one of the most important things for consumers when purchasing products. Cashmere is a natural fiber raw material with high value. Mislabeling of fiber content can easily mislead consumers.

2 batches of products were found to have unqualified methylene chloride soluble substances

Cashmere wool products need to add various additives in the production process, such as spinning oil, detergent, softener, etc. Methylene chloride soluble substances are components in cashmere knitted products that can be extracted by methylene chloride solvent. If methylene chloride soluble substances exceed the standard, cashmere wool will have a peculiar smell and feel sticky.

Based on the random inspection results, the Shanghai market supervision department has ordered relevant operators to immediately stop selling substandard products, conduct a comprehensive cleanup of products in stock and products on sale, take proactive measures in accordance with relevant laws and regulations to protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers, and conduct strict inspections on production, production and sales. Operators selling substandard products shall be transferred to the local market supervision department for investigation and handling according to law.
