“The Essence of Ancient and Modern Chinese Sericulture and Silk Techniques” is first released, providing a new perspective for promoting Chinese silk civilization
Intangible cultural heritage shines through the past and present, and silk creates a glorious chapter. On the 3rd, the new book launch and unveiling ceremony of “The Essence of Chinese Sericulture and Silk Techniques in Ancient and Modern Times” funded by the National Publishing Fund of Suzhou University Press was held on the center stage of the 12th Jiangsu Book Fair. The two chief editors of the book – Qian Xiaoping, a national inheritor of Song brocade weaving techniques, and Bai Lun, the former vice president of Suzhou University, are both winners of the National Cocoon and Silk Industry Lifetime Achievement Award.
Silk is a great invention of the Chinese ancestors. Over the course of thousands of years of historical development, silk has become a “bridge” to spread Chinese civilization to the world. “The Essence of Chinese Sericulture and Silk Techniques in Ancient and Modern Times” is the theoretical result of Qian Xiaoping, Bai Lun and others who have devoted more than ten years of research and creation. It has extremely high academic value.
As a project funded by the National Publishing Fund, “The Essence of Ancient and Modern Chinese Sericulture and Silk Technology” analyzes the important production factors in silk production since ancient times, such as silkworm breeding, silk reeling technology, variety design, silk weaving equipment, dyeing and finishing technology etc., systematically organized, classified, analyzed and comprehensively explained, paying full attention to the interactive phenomenon between the development of silkworm silk technology and the progress of the times, while exploring the cultural value of silk production factors, and in-depth exploration of its technical essence, fully demonstrating the rich civilization, cultural and scientific connotations. The book is full of pictures and texts, presented in an intuitive and vivid way, providing a new perspective for the promotion and inheritance of Chinese silk civilization, and revealing the role and value of this ancient civilization in my country’s social development and civilization progress.
At the press conference, Qian Xiaoping and Bai Lun introduced the content, features and innovations of the new book, as well as its practical significance for the inheritance of Chinese silk civilization. As a national inheritor of Song brocade weaving techniques, an intangible cultural heritage of mankind, Professor Qian Xiaoping highlighted the necessity and importance of in-depth study of the essence of silkworm silk techniques for the inheritance of Chinese silk civilization.
