The Guangdong Petrochemical Refining and Chemical Integration Project is the largest refining and chemical integration project invested and constructed by PetroChina to date, including 20 million tons/year refining + 2.6 million tons/ Annual aromatics + 1.2 million tons/year ethylene, of which the 2.6 million tons/year aromatics combined unit is currently the aromatics unit with the largest single production capacity in the world. The raffinate tower hoisted this time is the core equipment of the aromatics complex unit, with a height of 116 meters (equivalent to the height of 41 stories), a diameter of 13.8 meters, and a maximum wall thickness of 145 mm. With a hoisting weight of 4,606 tons (equivalent to the weight of more than 900 adult African elephants), it is the heaviest tower equipment in Asia and the highest tower equipment of its kind. It adopts the integrated construction idea of overall manufacturing, overall transportation, and overall hoisting.
In order to ensure the safety of hoisting the raffinate tower, the First Construction Company of China Petroleum Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. (CPECC) cooperated with scientific research institutes to conduct finite element analysis and analysis of the hoisting stress. Optimize the plan, determine the equipment placement, lifting lug orientation, and lifting lug diameter parameters, and set up 72 stress detection points where the lifting lug contacts the equipment body to monitor on-site hoisting conditions and accumulate technical data for future large-scale equipment hoisting.

Currently, the Guangdong Petrochemical Refining and Chemical Integration Project has completed most of the civil infrastructure construction and entered the stage of full installation. It is planned to be fully completed and put into operation in 2022. The successful hoisting of the raffinate tower laid a solid foundation for the aromatics complex to be put into operation on schedule.
