The name of TPU composite fabric/fabric is thermoplastic elastomer rubber. This material can soften under a certain heat and remain unchanged at normal temperature. It is used in shoes to provide stable support.
TPU composite fabric/fabric (Thermoplastic polyurethanes): Thermoplastic elastomer rubber. A plastic material that can repeatedly soften or change under a certain heat, but it can maintain its shape at normal temperature. It can play a role in support and protection. .Located in the midsole of the shoe (not necessarily, it is used in many places)
The main characteristics of TPU composite fabric/cloth

It has a wide hardness range (60HA-85HD), wear resistance, Oil-resistant, transparent and elastic, it is widely used in daily necessities, sporting goods, toys, decorative materials and other fields. Halogen-free flame-retardant TPU can also replace soft PVC to meet the environmental protection requirements of more and more fields. There are many TPU brands and grades, and the quality varies. When choosing TPU, it is best to go through detailed evaluation and demonstration, otherwise you will not get a cost-effective result.
TPU composite fabric/cloth is a material that can soften under a certain heat and remain unchanged at normal temperature. It is used for stability and support in shoes. TPU composite fabric/fabric is also called polyurethane rubber and is made of polyurethane. A relatively new product in China, it is widely used in the shoemaking industry, pipes… and other industries.
What is PTFE composite fabric/cloth?
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) composite fabric/cloth has been used for its excellent high and low temperature resistance and chemical stability, good electrical insulation properties, non-adhesion, weather resistance, flame retardancy and good self-lubricating properties. It has been widely used in chemical industry, petroleum, textile, electronic and electrical, medical, machinery and other fields.
Among fluoroplastics, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) composite fabric/cloth has a large consumption and wide range of uses. It is an important variety in fluoroplastics. PTFE composite fabric/cloth has excellent high and low temperature resistance and chemical stability, good electrical insulation properties, non-adhesion, weather resistance, flame retardancy and good self-lubricating properties, and is known as the “King of Plastics”. This material was first developed for national defense and cutting-edge technology needs, and then gradually extended to civilian use. Its uses involve many aspects of aerospace and civilian use, and it has now become an indispensable material in its application fields.
Performance characteristics of PTFE composite fabric/cloth
PTFE composite fabric/cloth is a polymer polymerized from tetrafluoroethylene monomer. It is a transparent or opaque wax similar to PE. Its density is 2.2g/cm3 and its water absorption rate is less than 0.01%. Its chemical structure is similar to PE, except that all hydrogen atoms in polyethylene are taken by fluorine atomsAnd put on the base material.
With the continuous development of material application technology, the three major shortcomings of PTFE composite fabric/cloth materials: cold flow, difficulty in welding, and difficulty in melt processing are gradually being overcome, making it widely used in optics, electronics, medicine, and petrochemical industry. The application prospects in various fields such as oil anti-seepage are broader.
The difference between TPU composite fabrics/fabrics and PTFE composite fabrics/fabrics
Many jackets use PU and TPU composite fabrics/cloth materials, which are also waterproof and breathable, but in actual outdoor environments they are very different from the E-PTFE composite fabric/cloth materials used by GoreTex.
1. Three major types of waterproof and breathable fabrics currently on the market:
1. High-density fabric: A dense fabric made of high-count cotton yarn and ultra-fine synthetic fiber, which has high water vapor permeability and has a certain degree of waterproofness after water-repellent finishing. High density is characterized by good moisture permeability, softness and drape, but low water pressure resistance (generally less than 1 meter), high defective rate, difficulty in dyeing and finishing, and poor hemming and friction resistance.
2. Coated composite fabrics/cloths: can be divided into two types: hydrophilic coating and microporous coating fabrics (TU and TPU). Hydrophilic coating is to apply a hydrophilic coating on the surface of the fabric. Because the coating covers all the gaps in the fabric, it can be waterproof. If there are hydrophilic genes on the polymer chain, with appropriate content and arrangement, they can interact with water molecules, using hydrogen bonds and other intermolecular forces to adsorb water molecules on the high-humidity side, through the hydrophilic gene groups on the polymer chain. Pass to the low humidity side for desorption. Coated fabrics are generally simple to process and are characterized by low moisture permeability and low water pressure resistance. Due to the limitations of raw materials, technology and the method itself, the contradiction between moisture permeability, air permeability, water pressure resistance and water washing resistance has not been resolved.
3. Laminated composite fabric: Laminated composite fabric combines waterproof and breathable properties with windproof and warm properties, and has obvious technical advantages. It uses lamination technology to combine ordinary fabrics with E-PTFE to complement each other. It is the main development direction of waterproof and breathable fabrics at present. At present, GOER-TEX of the American GOER Company and DENTIK of the domestic Dengtian Company both use E-PTFE (expanded polytetrafluoroethylene microporous membrane).
2. The difference between E-PTFE composite fabric/fabric, TPU composite fabric/fabric, and PU composite fabric/fabric:
At present, some fakes and defective goods of famous brands and some clothes claiming to be waterproof and breathable in the domestic outdoor products market are marked with GOER-TEX. In fact, they mainly use PU composite fabrics/fabrics and TPU composite fabrics/fabrics. Only those products from foreign regular channels (marked with GOER-TEX) and domestic products (marked with DENTIK) use E-PTFE microporous membranes.
Judging from the test data, the current test standards mainly include American ASTME96BW (7 types) and Japan’s JIS1092B (6 types). TPU can achieve: water vapor transmission rate 5800g/m2/day, static water pressure 10000mmH2O, this data and E-PTFE is almost the same, but this test is conducted at normal temperature and static conditions. Moisture conduction is greatly affected by temperature, humidity and air pressure. TPU composite fabric/cloth and static temperature between 20 degrees and 30 degrees PTFE composite fabrics/fabrics are equivalent, but under dynamic conditions, with heavy exercise and increased sweating, TPU moisture conduction is limited, and it is too late to spit out when full. In low temperature conditions, the lower the temperature, the greater the difference. As the temperature drops, TPU composite The molecular mobility of the fabric/cloth decreases and shrinks. At 0 degrees Celsius, the moisture conductivity of the TPU composite fabric/cloth decreases exponentially. It is almost zero below 0 degrees Celsius. It becomes brittle and easy to break when it reaches minus 15 degrees Celsius. If boiling water is poured directly on it E-PTFE will deform when the temperature is high, but E-PTFE will not change at temperatures between minus 150 degrees and 300 degrees. Its moisture conduction capacity remains unchanged, and it can discharge water vapor faster, keeping you dry and comfortable. It also has strong corrosion resistance, strong acid and alkali resistance, and can protect against toxic chemicals. The micropores of E-PTFE are not a straight channel, but the channels form a network structure in the membrane, and wind cannot pass directly. When encountering obstacles, it changes direction and folds back to achieve windproof effect and at the same time keep warm. Therefore, E-PTFE composite fabric/cloth is an ideal material for use in harsh environments.
Boil a pot of water and cover it with cloth. It is e-ptfe that can clearly and continuously see water vapor, not the glass on top. You can see water vapor on the glass because TPU composite fabric/cloth has a certain Breathable function, TPU is now made very thin, but in the actual outdoor environment, it is very different from the E-PTFE composite fabric/cloth material used by GoreTex.
